Inadequate Time for Response
Short Description
An element with important information does not give user adequate time to respond before disappearing
Long Description
- Sometimes a user with or without assistive technology is not able to change their focus fast enough to read new information before it times out.
- Several factors will impact how quickly someone can read a message, so it is important to avoid making assumptions about how much time someone will need to read.
- If the user has the control to dismiss a message, it provides the most flexibility for what the user needs.
Automatically changing the focus to the new information can help some people notice it more promptly.

Recommendations
- If possible, allow the user to dismiss the message when they are done reading it.
- If the message must time out independent of a user's actions, provide ample time for a user to find and read the message.
- When possible, redirect focus to critical messages.
