Short Description

Long Description

Recommendations

  • Instructions are necessary any time a label or other clues do not make it entirely clear what a user should put into an edit field.
  • Instructions should be placed so it is visually clear which instructions apply to which form field, usually before it. The pairing must also be clear in the flow of the DOM.
  • Instructions must use clear language so a user who is not an expert still knows how to use the form fields.
