Short Description

Adobe Flash Player crashes when some screen readers are running

Long Description

  • Conflicts between the Adobe Flash Player and some of the most popular screen readers leads to Flash Player crashing frequently when both are running.
  • When Flash Player crashes, it means the user has to start watching content from the beginning, sometimes never completely watching the content, because controls to select where to start watching are usually not accessible.
  • It is possible to make Adobe Flash Player content keyboard accessible, but it usually is not.
  • Adobe Flash Content is not supported by some platforms, most notably IOS, so it restricts the platforms a user can be on. It is important to allow a blind or low vision user to access content through the platforms that work best for them.

Example of Issue

No example currently available

  • Use a media player other than Adobe Flash Player, for example HTML5.
  • If it is necessary to use Adobe Flash Player, also provide an alternative way to watch the same media.
